Growing up, you may have spotted this small, pretty vintage box lying around on your Nanna’s dressing table. Manufactured in Hong Kong, this finely milled pressed powder known as “Sam Fong Hoi Tong” powder is most well-known for its beautiful packaging of a golden box adorned with flowers, coins and a portrait of a beautiful lady and was traditionally used as facial powder for women to achieve a flawless, matte-looking skin. Made with mainly calcium carbonate and talc, this vintage pressed powder is also excellent for cleaning and polishing your silver jewellery.

When you touch the compressed powder, there's a velvety feel to it, almost like soft chalk, dab some of the powder either on your fingers or onto a soft cotton cloth and rub it on your tarnished silver.  The calcium carbonate ingredient acts as a very gentle abrasive and you will instantly see how clean and polished your jewellery becomes.

Wipe off the excessive powder with a clean cotton cloth and your silver jewelry is once again sparkling like new.

Store your pretty vintage box of Hoi Tong powder in a small container with a lid to ensure you capture any loose powder escaping its box wishing to fly away.
